The idea for Infrastructure came about from Javier Aguilar's experience with computer programming and building interfaces for others to use. By creating these structures for others, he realized that most do not know how these structures actually function, yet they are working within them. They maintain these digital experiences in an environment that has been constructed for them.
This body of work revolves around the idea of infrastructures and constructed realities. The photographs challenge the idea of constructing reality, transparency and the role of identity by being filtered through various technological applications. The intention of pushing and stretching these photographs, is to see how far factualness within a photograph can go without losing its integrity. The use of distortion, color and light are emphasized in this work to convey these ideas.
